Announcing the launch of The Birthday project

Today, Australia’s iconic clothing brand Bonds launched an ambitious project to find more than 35,000 Australians born on every day since Bonds launched in 1915. The Bond’s Birthday Project is inviting all Australians aged from newborn to 96 to claim their birthday at wearebonds.com.au.

To commemorate the launch Bonds commissioned artist Darren Sylvester to create an artwork featuring 10 iconic Australians ‘enjoying a shared birthday moment’. Darren Sylvester is an acclaimed Australian multi-media artist. His work hangs in major Australian galleries and Sir Elton John is one of many collectors. The artwork, titled You thought of Me, features one famous Australian to represent each of the 10 decades since Bonds opened in 1915, including:

· Former Number 96 actress and PHD student Lis Kirkby

· Cook and author Margaret Fulton

· Megastar Dame Edna Everage

· Actor Michael Caton

· Media personality Deborah Hutton

· Musician Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu

· Bonds ambassadors Sarah Murdoch and Pat Rafter

· Pro surfer Owen Wright

· Solo sailor Jessica Watson

· Bonds Babysearch winner 2005 Ethan Herlihy

The artwork was unveiled by Bonds ambassadors Sarah Murdoch and Pat Rafter at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney on February 28.

From December 8, Westfield Sydney will host Christmas Cracker, a unique Christmas themed pop-up restaurant featuring Australia’s first gingerbread bar. Christmas Cracker will be exclusive to Westfield Sydney between December 8 to 29 and will be open to all shoppers.

Designed as a Christmas fantasy wonderland, Christmas Cracker follows a northern hemisphere theme tempting summer shoppers with a forest of icicle laden trees and a bar constructed entirely from fragrant gingerbread. The gingerbread bar was designed and baked by the Becasse Bakery team under the supervision of Chef, Justin North. The bar comprises over 400 gingerbread squares and features a design of snowflakes created from icing and Christmas candies. The Becasse team will offer shoppers a signature ‘four tastes of Christmas’ tasting plate by Justin North to be enjoyed with Mumm Champagne.

A further highlight for shoppers was the appearance of Network Ten’s Bondi Rescue crew in Christmas Cracker where shoppers can have their photograph taken with the crew by fashion photographer Nicholas Samartis.
